A lot of the previous owners of dropped .Tel domains had other expectations, which where not fulfilled according to their expectations.
And you can't just give all the fault to the registry (Telnic). And so, this is a natural drop out of names: If things don't happen within short time, people get unpatient, and give up upon their (brilliant) projects.
Looking through the lists of dropped domains, I must say, that many of them are ideal for QR-Code usage.
How else, would you want to reach your customers, then by providing offline Dot Tel data to reach customers, online?
The lists of dropped Dot Tel domains should not discourage you, but encourage you, because it is one of the biggest chances in Domain name history. It is a good sign, if you will. It reflects our society. The people, who created the names, where on the right track, but lost faith and believe in one of the most promising domain name extension of our time.
If this dropping won't stop soon, in those high amounts of dropped domains, Telnic can only save its butt by bringing the QR-Code thing forward.
It is economy versus common sense.
The lack of common sense is creating a economical problem. Till it might end into a financial desaster.
It is of course wrong, also economically, to drop such big amounts of .Tel domains. Even if you save reg fee: Keeping the name, is more profitable, in the long term.
Or, go and pick it up, soon. Your name, or his name.
Its not the time for penny saving, or penny spending.
Spend and buy, but do it wisely.
The registry is something like a victim of the wishful thinking of Dot Tel holders, dropping their domain names, because no revenue is coming to them.
The registry is working hard, now, to catch up with things, to please its registrants.
Stay tuned, keep your .Tel's. Don't drop them all.
