Just generated, for www.triest.tel:
Sweet!
By the way: a sub-domain of www.triest.tel has risen from page six to page three, within Google Web (Goole Search). Thank you, Google.
Edit:
Same domain name, but without forward slash, from same generator:
Whereas "Kaywa" gives us for the same input the following output / code:
Adding a slash, within the Kaywa generator, makes the structure even more complex.
Conclusion:
You are probably able to get either a smaller and "chunky code version" of your domain name, or a slightly bigger, a more complex and filigree structured one, which is better for customizing with small icons, etc.
If only coloring the code, itself, I would take the shortest URL without slash at the end, and get the simplest look, which is less confusing than the complex structured code versions. Less is more.
So, at least for the domain name www.triest.tel, my favorite QR-Code generator is the one provided by qrstuff.com.
In the case of „http://triest.tel“, shortening the URL with the „bit.ly“ tool, did not bring any benefit or improvement.
It was, in that case, a useless procedure. But is better, with longer domain names.
The bit.ly output for triest.tel, is:
http://bit.ly/foKCAX
If we compare the length:
http://triest.tel
http://bit.ly/foKCAX
It doesn't seem to make any sense, to shorten a short name.
For customizing a QR-Code with icons and pictures, just generate a code with slash at the end of the domain name.
If a domain name exceeds the length of the shortened URL, than I would give it a shot, with shortening, and see, if there are any important improvements.
I would always compare the code-output of a non-shortened URL with a shortened one, and use different code generators, and then decide and make a choice, about how to proceed, with which generator, for getting your final code. And then perhaps go over, to adding some color (and a icon or logo) to it.

Have fun, and take care.
