Next (Dot Tel) Renewal - What To Do?

My own comment, on the following post:
Well: Domains are in general long term projects and investments. Probably not the propper way, to set a high benchmark for one or two years, expecting a new domain extension to take off, in such a short time. The Dot Com domain needes 25 years to get acceptance and recognition by the businesses and the manstream. However, as .Tel is als a social media page, for networkig with businesses, customers and friends, one would expecte some bigger efforts made, form the side of the domain registry. It is very hard to try to figure out, why Telnic's support and promo for .Tel is so terrible poor and sluggish. No body knows. Its just a lot of passivness there. Where much more could be done. Especially now, when the QR-Codes are the next big thing for mobile devices.
That would be a cheap chance for .Tel, to promote and interact between Print Media and Web Media, and reach a bigger awareness from the average mobile consumers / users. Telnic fails, actually, if you will, to deliver a lot of transparency and precicely scheduled improvements. There is only a road map, with vague hints, about when the updates can be expected to be released. Basically, the registry has a lot of practice in making mouths watery, but then rater disappointing its customers, by delivering updates and new features, that could of been done much better, and in much shorter time. So, basically, improvements take much too long, and arn't in way, one would expect them to be, according to other existing standarts.

If you ask me, than Telnic the registry for the Dot Tel doman, should jump on the QR bandwagon, NOW.

Nevertheless, if you can keep a good .Tel name, than you have something that has a lot of potential, and which will be partly unfolding with the QR-Code usage in the next years. But also keep in mind, that Codes exist since 10 (ten) years, but work great in Japan. This code technology will soon catch on, the US and in Europe, including the UK. Some good blogs out there, for people interested in QR-Code technology and usage. Get informed and educated, and use the codes, because they are great for SEO. Cheers, and take care.

Michael from "THE DOT TEL DOMANS BLOG" comments in a post:

"Next Renewal - What To Do?

Well the next dot tel renewal is rolling around quickly for those who registered yearly and got their domains at the time that they were originally made public.

Like last year, the question is whether to renew or to drop.

Frankly, I can find very little to be optimistic about. Telnic, and owners, do not seem to have made a lot of progress in developing or marketing the dot tel concept.

Selling any names seems to be virtually impossible unless you are willing to accept extremely low offers.

I think this March many people will decide to drop their dot tel domains because they had given it an extra year last March and after two years they will feel they can make a better decision from available information.

There has been some progress in China, a little in Germany, and a little in Russia, but nothing that would indicate that the extension has much of a future - I hope I am wrong.

It seemed such a good idea 21 months ago, and it still seems a good idea, but it is just not happening at the moment.

The announcement about Macau Yellow Pages offering - who knows what that means - dot tels to customers was positive but the extension needs these sort of announcements from the UK, the US, and other first world countries. They have not been forthcoming.

Personally, after dropping 40% of my portfolio last year, I will further reduce this March. And I am only developing a handful because I think it would be very easy to spend too much time on these things given the uncertainty of the outcome.

I have not read anything from Telnic that gives me any reason to hope at this stage. Others may have a different view.

I still think dot tel has value in countries with high mobile bandwidth charges."
